How Much Revenue Does It Take To Be A $1B Public Company?

With all the chatter about Billion dollar valuations -- like Instagram, Evernote, Splunk -- combined with recent S1 filings and IPOs, the topic of tech company valuation is coming to the forefront of people?s minds. Specifically related to the software industry, the growing number of SaaS IPO candidates of late is signaling an important shift in the way that enterprise software is built and sold. It also indicates that the subscription business model is here to stay. What does this shift towards a subscription economy means for startups, investors and the IPO landscape? First of all ? get Instagram out of your mind. The price it sold for is not relevant to us mere mortals who are building B2B software businesses. For all good, non-bubble reasons, SaaS companies need tens of millions in revenue, high growth, and solid business fundamentals. What you may notice though, is that revenue may be lower than what we?ve become accustomed to during the last few years of IPO drought.

Indie Developer Lab announced, coinciding with WWDC for those turned away

iOS developers on the west coast might be just a little bit peeved that WWDC sold out before they were even awake, and even more may have been cut out from the fun today as Apple canceled some tickets. Luckily, another event called the Indie Developer Lab has been put together for the same time (June 11 - 14) and only a few blocks away from the Moscone Center at The Box (it's fancier than it sounds). Tickets are considerably cheaper at $100/day as an early bird special, compared to $1600 for the whole four days at WWDC.

Leaked T-Mobile docs give ICS update schedule for Sensation 4G, Galaxy S II, and Amaze 4G

TmoNews got their hands on a leaked enterprise calendar from T-Mobile corporate, and tucked in the rest of the news was the proposed dates for the Ice Cream Sandwich rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S II, the HTC Sensation 4G, and the HTC Amaze 4G. I won't tease:

• The Galaxy S II is slated to be updated May 14
• The Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G are expected to be updated June 16

Of course things like this are subject to change, but the time frame sounds about right. Be on the lookout for ROMs to leak, we sure will be.

Believe It Or Not: Justin Bieber Unveils Album Cover!

Pop star tweets standard and deluxe album covers for June 19 release, cryptically telling fans, 'expect the unexpected.'

Judging by the cover art for Justin Bieber's Believe album, the 18-year-old pop star is well aware of one of his best assets: his boyish good looks. The cover, which Bieber tweeted on Friday evening (April 27), is simply a black-and-white close-up of his face with the word "BELIEVE" stamped in a yellow caution-tape font underneath.

"Here is the #BELIEVEalbumCover standard version," he tweeted, followed by a second tweet that included a sepia-toned version of the same image: "and this is the DELUXE #BELIEVEalbumCover - #52DAYS - excited? expect the unexpected."

After posting the Believe album cover on Friday, Bieber retweeted one fan's over-the-top reaction to the artwork: "That awkward moment when I almost ran over a lady and hit the car in front of me cuz I saw the #BELIEVEAlbumCover lololol," @julieannxoxo wrote.

Bieber just revealed the June 19 Believe release date last week on "The Voice," also bringing along a teaser from his yet-unreleased "Boyfriend" video. Even after revealing that sneak peek, Bieber was spotted shooting new scenes for the highly anticipated video, kissing a mystery brunette (hey, that's not Selena!) on set.

"The concept of this video, I mean, it's not like a steady concept," Bieber told MTV News while shooting the video back in March. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.

"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun."

MakerBot printing out Robot Petting Zoo for Maker Faire

Sure, it's no $500 3D printer, but the folks at MakerBot always have plenty of fun stuff floating around their Brooklyn headquarters. Stuff like, you know, a Robot Petting Zoo. The company's prepping a slew of 3D printed 'bots for display at the upcoming Maker Faire in California. CNET's got shots of the robots, each of which have special functionality like old Button Bot pictured above -- not so great for petting, but he likely knows more tricks that your average sheep.
